Our Little Red House [ part one ]
{ part two }
{ part three }
It's kind of ridiculous how excited I am to share our new home with all of you.
Moving into our first apartment was kind of a big deal, so it's no surprise that being in our first house is a much, much, much bigger deal.
[ Okay, so it isn't much of a house, but it is its own place - not a basement apartment, not a four-plex - it's a legitimate house. ]
Shortly after the second miscarriage, Patrick and I decided that staying in a below-ground-level apartment for another winter would probably be a bad idea, so we started to look around for other places to rent. It got pretty frustrating as we neared the end of our current contract and didn't have a new place to live. There were a couple places that seemed promising from their online ads, but after actually seeing them, we weren't very impressed.
On 31 June, there were three places that we were scheduled to look at: one of
them was a basement apartment that was even more dark and gloomy than
our current place; the second fell through when no one showed up to give
us a tour; and the third one, well, it ended our house searching.
The
landlady told us that someone else was first in line for the little red
house that was built in the '50s, but she would keep in contact with us
and let us know if he decided to take it or not.
The next day, we turned in our "Intent to Move" along with the next month's
rent and continued to search the area for our new home. While we were at work, we got the call telling us that we were now the first people in line for the house, and that if we wanted it, we needed to be moved in by the end of the week. After much deliberation, excitement coupled with doubt, we decided to take it. We stopped by to sign the contract and pick up the keys that evening.
Nothing could wipe the grins off our faces - that is, until we got back to our apartment and realized that we needed to pack and clean on top of taking extra shifts at work that week. ;) Still, we were elated, and within a few short days, the Little Red House was officially ours.
